Taylor Shaw is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She believes everyone is ultimately their own expert and sometimes needs a helping hand to unearth their authentic self. Seeking therapy can be an overwhelming and anxiety-provoking process. Taylor recognizes this, and she is committed to providing a safe and comfortable space to heal wounds, process complex emotions, gain self awareness, and enhance coping skills so that each person can achieve their best self. Working with Taylor, you will be the pilot with her by your side as the co-pilot supporting you through the journey.
Taylor enjoys working with individuals, couples, and families in her private practice. She works with children, adolescents, and adults. Taylor is skilled in a wide range of evidenced-based treatment modalities. Her therapeutic interventions vary depending on her client’s individual needs, but include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), the Gottman method (for couples therapy), empowerment, strength-based, mindfulness, psychodynamic, and solution-focused therapy.
She has experience working in various treatment settings with individuals who have complex psychiatric illnesses and co-occurring disorders. Taylor has successfully helped people struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, childhood abuse, sexual assault/abuse, bipolar and other mood disorders, grief and loss, relationship issues, behavioral difficulties, life transitions, LGBTQ issues, and substance abuse.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Child Development. While obtaining her undergraduate degree, she was employed as a mental health associate at a residential treatment facility for adolescents struggling with behavioral, emotional, and mental health issues. This helped reinforce her desire to serve and work with families and adolescents in the field of mental health.
Taylor is a graduate of the University of Houston, where she received her Master’s Degree in Social Work with a clinical concentration. She served as vice president in the Clinical Leadership Society during graduate school. She successfully completed internships at both TH Rogers School and The Center For Success and Independence.
Post graduate school, Taylor was employed by Memorial Hermann Psychiatric Response Team providing direct patient care within various emergency departments and medical units. For over three years, Taylor successfully worked with hundreds of clients of all ages with identified psychiatric or chemical dependency needs and/or identified as at risk of harm to self or others. This experience helped strengthen her knowledge base and professional growth, as well as aide in the development of her clinical skills and abilities.
Taylor is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Association for Play Therapy. She has been a professional consultant on several occasions. She has been featured in Womensforum and was most recently on Great Day Houston with Deborah Duncan.
